Dr Fariz Safhan graduated with medical degree from University of Otago, New Zealand in 1999 He obtained his Masters in Medicine (Internal Medicine) from Universiti Sains Malaysia in 2008. He subsequently completed sub specialty training in Nephrology with the Board of Nephrology, Ministry of Health (MOH) Malaysia in 2013. Dr Fariz is currently the Consultant Nephrologist and Physician, Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan (HTAA), Kuantan. He is the Head of Nephrology Service Pahang, Head of Nephrology Department HTAA and Head of Clinical Research Centre, HTAA and Pahang. He provides visiting Nephrology services at all MOH Hospitals in Pahang. He is also the Honorary Lecturer for UIAM Medical School and the Surveyor for Malaysian Society of Quality Health (MSQH) in Haemodialysis Services. Dr Fariz Safhan is currently The Council Member for Malaysian Society of Nephrology (2022 – 2024). Dr Fariz is active in clinical research with many written publications in journals under his name. He also has carried out many clinical trials, including 15 where he was the principal investigator and 6 as the national lead - corresponding principal investigator. His special clinical research interests are mainly in the field of IgA Nephropathy, Chronic Kidney Disease, Lupus Nephritis and Critical Care Nephrology. He has received several recognitions for his clinical trial work including top APAC recruiter and being one of the top global recruiters for IgA Nephropathy and Lupus Nephritis clinical trials. Dr Fariz has been named as Malaysian Research Personality in 2023 by Clinical Research Malaysia. Dr Fariz is active as a speaker for numerous conferences and courses in the fields of Nephrology and Internal Medicine.
