Dr Adrian Liew is a Senior Consultant Nephrologist and Director of The Kidney & Transplant Practice at the Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital in Singapore. He was the founding Chief of Nephrology at the Department of Renal Medicine, Tan Tock Seng Hospital in Singapore and an Associate Professor of Medicine at the LKC School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University-Imperial College London before moving to his current role. He has been elected as a Fellow to various academic institutions including the Royal College of Physicians in the United Kingdom, American Society of Nephrology and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. He is the current elected Secretary and Executive of the International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis, member of the KDIGO Executive Board and the Deputy Chair of the ISN CME Committee. He is a Scientific Leader with George Clinical and sits on the Steering Committees of various international clinical trials in nephrology. Dr Liew is a member of the working groups involved in the development of the KDIGO Guideline on Glomerular Diseases 2021, the KDIGO Guideline on Diabetes Management in Chronic Kidney Disease for 2020 and 2022 and the ISPD Recommendations on Prescribing High Quality, Goal-Directed Peritoneal Dialysis and he is the Chair of the working group for the Asian-Pacific Society of Nephrology Clinical Practice Guidelines on Diabetic Kidney Disease. He has been actively involved in the training and development of glomerular disease and peritoneal dialysis programs in various countries around Southeast Asia and has provided sister renal centre mentorship to nephrologists in several developing countries. His research interests are in peritoneal dialysis, glomerular diseases and diabetic kidney disease, and he is the recipient of the 2020 John Maher award from the ISPD.
Dr Liao is currently the Chief of the Division of Nephrology, Department of Internal Medicine at Taipei Medical University-Shuang Ho Hospital, New Taipei City, Taiwan. Following the completion of nephrology training at National Taiwan University Hospital, he moved to UK in 2010 to conduct peritoneal dialysis basic and translational research and obtained a Ph.D. degree from Cardiff University in 2015. Throughout his academic career, he has won several prestigious awards such as EDTA-ERA Young Investigator Award (2009), EU Marie Curie International Fellowship Award (2011), and Kidney Research UK Fellowship Award (2016). His major research interests focus on peritoneal and kidney immunity and dialysis outcome studies. He has published scientific papers in highly influential journals such as Science, Immunity, Nature Communications, Kidney International and many more. Besides, he is actively participating in national and international societies, now serves as the Deputy Director of International Affairs and Cooperation Committee of Taiwan Society of Nephrology, and the Deputy Coordinator of International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis (ISPD) Asia-Pacific Chapter (APC) and Editor of ISPD APC Newsletter.
Dr. Nuttha Lumlertgul completed nephrology training and critical care nephrology training in Bangkok, Thailand. Afterwards, she has completed further critical care training and postdoctoral fellowship at Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, London, UK. She is currently a consultant in general internal medicine and nephrology at Excellence Centre for Critical Care Nephrology, Division of Nephrology, King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, Bangkok, Thailand. Her interests are AKI and use of biomarkers, optimisation of acute kidney replacement therapy, and post-AKI follow-up.
Assoc. Prof. Dr Paweena Susantitaphong received her medical degree, PhD, and Clinical Nephrology from Chulalongkorn University. She received International Society of Nephrology COMGAN Fellowship Award and completed a Clinical Research Fellowship at the St. Elizabeth’s Medical Centre, Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston. She has been an adjunct associate professor at Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston, USA. She has been promoted to Professor of Medicine and is also Director of Centre of Excellence for Metabolic Bone Disease in CKD Patients, Chulalongkorn University. She received the Outstanding Young Physician Award 2023 from The Royal College of Physician of Thailand. Recently, she is the committee of Executive Director, The Nephrology Society of Thailand and the chairman of the Research and Professional Standards Sub-Committee, The Nephrology Society of Thailand. Dr. Susantitaphong has contributed more than 50 chapters in textbooks and has published over 120 articles in peer-reviewed journals as well as 3,890 citations, H-index 29. In 2022 and 2023, s0he received World’s Top 2% Scientists by Elsevier data update (Stanford University).
Dr Peter Kotanko, is Head of Biomedical Evidence Generation and Research Director at the Renal Research Institute (RRI), New York. Prior to joining RRI, from 1997 to 2007 he served as Vice Chair of a department of internal medicine at an academic teaching hospital in Graz, Austria. Prior to moving to Graz in 1989, he worked 1982-89 at the Department of Physiology and the University Clinic of Internal Medicine, Innsbruck, Austria. From 1995-6 he trained in nephrology at the Hammersmith Hospital, London, UK. He is Adjunct Professor of Medicine and Nephrology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York and holds a teaching appointment at the Medical University Innsbruck. He has authored and co-authored over 410 publications and book chapters, and he is inventor on multiple patents in the kidney space. He is an awardee of the 2019 and 2021 KidneyX prize for innovations in dialysis and he is a Fellow of the American Society of Nephrology.
Assoc. Prof. Surasak completed his MD and Fellowship in nephrology from the Faculty of Medicine, Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University Thailand. He received a Ph.D. in molecular genetics from the University of Edinburgh. His areas of interest include salt and hypertension-induced organ damage and high-risk kidney transplantation. He is a former President of the Nephrology Society of Thailand and chairman of the local organizing working group of the World Congress of Nephrology 2023. He is currently the chairman of the Thai low salt network. His role in policy development for CKD prevention in Thailand has been prominent, by spearheaded the low salt campaign and was instrumental in setting up a national strategy on sodium reduction in Thailand endorsed by the Ministry of Public Health. The low salt network and partners have successfully advocated for a national strategy on reducing salt intake, researched sodium intake and sodium content in foods, and implemented numerous strategies including awareness campaigns, creating low salt communities, technical innovations for reducing salt in packaged foods and prepared dishes, food labeling, and developed draft regulations on marketing restrictions and taxation.
Prof Dr Sydney Tang is currently Chair of Renal Medicine and Yu Professor in Nephrology at The University of Hong Kong. He graduated from HKU with MBBS and subsequently MD and PhD degrees. He trained in Nephrology at Queen Mary Hospital (Hong Kong) and in basic sciences at King’s College London (UK) and the University of Washington (USA). His research interests include the pathogenetic mechanisms of diabetic and proteinuric kidney disease, and the treatment of IgA nephropathy. He has published over 330 SCI articles and written over 30 book chapters including one on diabetic kidney disease in Comprehensive Clinical Nephrology. He is an Associate Editor of the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology (JASN), Editorial Board member of Kidney International (KI), CJASN, American Journal of Nephrology and Kidney Diseases, and the previous Editor-in-Chief of Nephrology (Carlton). He has served the Asian Pacific Society of Nephrology as President, CME Program Committee of the ISN as Chairman and KDIGO as an Executive Member. Locally, he serves the Hong Kong College of Physicians as Council Member and Chairman of the Specialty Board in Nephrology and is a past chairman of the Hong Kong Society of Nephrology.
Professor Vivekanand Jha is Executive Director at The George Institute for Global Health, India, Chair of Global Kidney Health, Faculty of Medicine, Imperial College, London and past President of International Society of Nephrology. He is an established clinician-scientist and has led many clinical trials, policy relevant community research and basic science research in the field of kidney disease and transplantation.
Professor Jha is a recognised global expert on the burden of kidney disease and its socioeconomic impact on low-middle income countries. He advises the Govt of India as a member of Task Forces and Scientific Advisory Committees, is a member of the Core Group to develop National Health research policy and an Advisor to the WHO.
He has led large-scale collaborative research projects in many countries and has a track record of translating research findings into changes in clinical practice and health, especially non- communicable diseases. Prof Jha leads many research networks in India and globally and is regularly invited to make plenary presentations in major global and regional conferences. He has held leadership positions in International Transplantation Society, International Society of Peritoneal Dialysis and Asian Pacific Society of Nephrology. He has been recognized by the National Academy of Medical Sciences India, Royal College of Physicians of London with Fellowships. He has published over 500 peer reviewed papers, and 34 book chapters in a range of leading journals. Prof Jha regularly contributes to advocacy discussions with NGOs, multilateral organizations, consumer groups, civil society organisations and through lay press
Prof Yi-Wen Chiu, a dedicated Taiwanese nephrologist, commits his career to advancing the understanding and treatment of chronic kidney disease (CKD). Graduated with a medical degree from Kaohsiung Medical College in 1992, he refined his skills through research training at Harbor-UCLA/LA Biomedical Research Institute from 2008 to 2010. Dr. Chiu holds the esteemed position of Director of the Department of Internal Medicine & Division of Nephrology at Kaohsiung Medical University Hospital, and Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, Kaohsiung Medical University. He considers it a privilege to contribute to his field and has held supervisory roles in prestigious organizations such as the Taiwan Society of Nephrology since 2016, serving as Director of the CKD Prevention Committee between 2019-2022. Board-certified in nephrology and internal medicine, Dr. Chiu's interests encompass CKD care, mineral bone disorder, and dialysis. Recently, he has delved into the application of artificial intelligence in dialysis care, marking a new core investigation for him. His expertise and commitment have been demonstrated through numerous invited speeches at international conferences, including the Asia Forum of CKD, ISPD Asian Chapter, Thailand-Malaysia-Taiwan, and KSN-TSN-JSDT Joint Symposium.
Dr Yvonne was born in Kota Kinabalu Studied Medicine in UNSW Trained in Wollongong, Prince of Wales, St George and Royal North Shore Hospitals. She has a PhD from UNSW in Adiponectin Run the Big Red Kidney Bus (Holiday Dialysis). She is interested in New Technology for Home Haemodialysis Assisted opening Home HD in China (Shanghai).
